Care Level: Expert
Water Conditions: 75-82° F, pH 8.1-8.4, sg 1.022-1.026
Typical Max. Size: 8″
Diet: Filter Feeding Omnivore

Approx Purchase Size: 3-4in

The Sea Apple is a relative of other sea cucumbers and has the ability to spew it guts at predators. It needs an established aquarium with live rock to move around and find a favorable location, usually in a high current area. It is very sensitive to copper-based medications. Sudden changes in pH or salinity can cause undue stress and may trigger an unwanted reaction or possibly death.

Do not house these cucumbers with fish that have teeth such as Triggers, Puffers or large Wrasses. Also be cautious when keeping with some species of Butterflyfish or Angelfish known to pick on invertebrates.

As a filter feeder, it will need to be fed a diet of phytoplankton or microplankton on a daily basis.

The Giant Red Hermit also known as White Spot Hermit is an excellent scavenger. While they may pick at some algae they are not great for controlling it. They are best know for savaging leftover foods and detritus. They also help in aerating the sand bed through constant sifting. The Giant Red Hermit is highly aggressive and will prey on smaller tank mates, and invertebrates. Be sure to provide plenty of extra shells in different sizes to prevent boredom and allow for growth.
